2023 Polygon 5 Grenache, Alkina

The Polygon range from Alkina is a showcase of the diverse terroir in their biodynamically certified vineyard, with micro-plots harvested and fermented separately to show exactly what the team found with renowned terroir expert Pedro Parra when mapping the site. The Polygon 5 is a more bombastic and dark fruited partner to the ethereal Polygon 3. It’s sourced from two neighbouring parcels totalling 0.37 hectares, where heavily fractured schist contains seams of clay and iron beneath a relatively deep layer of topsoil. It’s hand-picked, and fermented wild with 80% whole bunches. Fermentation took place in an unlined concrete tulip, and it spent 10 months in there after pressing.
