Sweet
There’s no more satisfying end to a great meal than with a great sweet wine. The best of them combine sweetness with freshness and drinkability – they're wines that invite another sip. Many of the most prized examples, from regions such as Sauternes, the Loire and the Mosel, owe their residual sugar to the effects of botrytis (or noble rot). Other world-class sweet wines include Vin Santo from Tuscany, where late-picked grapes are dried for many months or even years to concentrate the sugar. Being less fashionable than they once were, even the finest, longest-lived sweet wines can represent outstanding value for money.
