2023 Polygon 1 Shiraz, Alkina

Alkina’s Polygon series shows a range of distinct soil types on this biodynamic vineyard, mapped by Pedro Parra from over 100 soil pits. Polygon 1 is a Shiraz from just six rows of 70-year-old bush vines, growing in heavily fractured micaceous schist and quartzite. Fruit was hand-harvested, and they used 80% whole bunch in the ferment. The wine was matured after pressing for nine months in a 700 litre concrete egg. It’s incredibly detailed and mineral, with a dense core of fruit but beautiful violet lift.
