2024 Bourgogne Blanc 'Le Clos Alfred', Domaine Bruno Lorenzon

Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France

This is a true Clos of just under a hectare set within the appellation of Mercurey. Occasionally, a little Montagny may find its way into here, but not in a vintage like ’24, when there was so little fruit to go round. The soil is an intriguing mix of clay and limestone that bring both a sense of matière and a mineral lift to the wine. Bruno enhances the latter element by ageing a large proportion (around half) of the wine in steel with the rest being aged in older oak. As is often the case with entry wines from top vignerons, this represents great value, with the same level of attention to detail and focus given to its production as to Bruno’s other wines. The vines may still be relatively youthful at around 20 years old, but this ‘24 is absolutely brilliant, displaying even more peps and vitality than usual. It has real control and purpose, and a touch of class not often seen at this level. Impressively stylish and mouthwatering. This is not just one of the bargains of this offer, but of the whole vintage. Drink from 2027
