2024 Mercurey 1er Cru 'Carline' Clos des Champs Martin, Domaine Bruno Lorenzon

Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France

This special part of Champs Martin faces more due south than the rest of the vineyard and sits still further down the slope where the clay has enough confidence to show its face more visibly. The vines are 65 years old and, consequently, Bruno is very comfortable using 90% whole bunch. The sense of freshness the whole bunch brings, adds an extra level of refinement, which acts as a great foil to the more structural framework of the wine. The result is a harmonious Pinot of both power and finesse. The tannins are present, but much more noble than anyone else’s in the Chalonnaise, being much more reminiscent of those in the best parts of the Côte de Nuits. This will be very beautiful given time. Drink from 2032
