2024 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Baraults Blanc, Domaine Bruno Lorenzon

Always a favourite of this taster, Clos des Barrault reflects everything that can be great about this appellation. The vines are 80 years old, which is a good start, and they bring such an innate intensity to the wine that it always feels like there is so much more to come. The vineyard is south-facing and enjoys a really sunny exposure, yet the wine chooses to express through an extremely harmonious structure rather than any sense of heaviness. It feels as if there is so much to unfurl and we are just getting a glimpse of the promise that lies beneath. Its depth of flavour and structural framework suggest several more sessions will be required before we see it in its full glory. A brilliant wine in the making. Drink from 2030
