2024 Mercurey 1er Cru Champs Martin Rouge, Domaine Bruno Lorenzon

Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France

Bruno has plenty of Pinot planted in Champs Martin, most of which sits just below the Chardonnay a little further down the limestone slope, where there is a teensy bit more clay, but not much. In fact, the limestone influence still comes through very articulately and it’s a case of choosing your preferred fruit description. Bruno mentions white strawberries, which certainly resonates. The precision and elegance are just delightful, and the gentle grip is more hand holding than dominating. For a wine that is 75% whole bunch, there is no dominance of whole bunch florality; it is the limestone terroir which wins the argument, another testament to Bruno’s genius. Drink from 2030
