2017 Pommard Les Perrières, Domaine Launay-Horiot

The vines here were planted in 1902! The vineyard is the large one on the right after you have left Beaune via the mini roundabout heading south to Meursault, with his own named Cabotte smack bang in the middle. It is not a monopole, but he has two hectares of vines here, planted on almost sandy soil with plenty of stones. The nose is very classical, earthy and red fruited, but the palate has finesse and excellent energy, which is in keeping with the new breed of Pommard we are seeing today and in part a reflection of the terroir. There is good flesh and quite a fine structure binding everything together. Classic.
