2022 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mignotte, Domaine Georges Noëllat

This monopole Clos is only ¼ of a hectare in size, but it makes very classy wine. The vines are 40 years old, so not ancient, but a decent age nevertheless. The soil here is quite white and chalky and it helps bring a real zip to the wine. It’s very compact and perfectly controlled and harmonious. It’s rare to taste Beaunes with this level of style and sophistication. Jasper Morris MW is in agreement, awarding it 92-94 pts and enjoying ‘its lifted energy’ stating that this ‘is really classy yet with a depth to it.’ Drink from 2028
