2021 Bourgogne Gamay Les Deux Terres, Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair

This is a relatively new estate, created in 2001, but the history of Thibault's family in wine, direct or otherwise, is quite layered and complex, dating back 300 years! Thibault farms biodynamically and works in similar fashion in the cuverie. He is not afraid of new oak and chooses the trees from which his barrels are made. He is an advocate of whole bunch too, though he varies it enormously, being dictated to by either the vintage or the parcel (or both) rather than the other way around. This cuvée, "Les Deux Terres", meaning "The Two Lands", is a blend of 85% Gamay and 15% Pinot Noir, coming from Beaujolais for the former and Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits for the latter. The blend varies according to the vintage to achieve a great balance, resulting in a wine with the finesse and distinction of Pinot Noir and the delicious indulgence of Gamay.
