2021 Pouilly-Loché Les 4 Saisons, Domaine Clos des Rocs

The highly focused and intensely motivated Olivier Giroux runs this 13-hectare estate in Loché, a village that has surged in recognition in recent years. A great believer in the philosophy that you can only make great wines from great grapes, Olivier has been running the domaine biodynamically for a number of years and loves working his beloved vines every bit as much as working his magic in the winery. "Les 4 Saisons" comes from a small 0.75-hectare parcel of 40-year-old Chardonnay vines on clay and gravel soils over very old sandstone. Production is tiny at around 4,000 bottles; the grapes are hand-harvested, slowly pressed, then fermented and aged for 12 months in older 500-litre barrels to add texture while keeping the terroir expression clear.
