2016 Roero Arneis Le Val dei Preti, Az. Ag. Matteo Correggia

Roero, Piedmont, Italy

From Arneis vines up to 75 years old in the stunning Val dei Preti vineyard, this is a true benchmark white for Roero. It started life as an experiment – or rather means of showcasing to outsiders what locals had always known; that Arneis has the capacity to age. After a fairly modest fine months in tank, it is bottled then left to mature in the estate’s cellar for no fewer than six years prior to release. The wine reads a little like a high-quality, aged Sancerre, with subtle smoky and honeyed notes. The 2016 balances texture with freshness and, aside from its curiosity factor, is a downright delicious, moreish and food-friendly drink. Drinking window: 2023-2028
