2022 Mercurey Empreinte, Domaine Charton

This is a special cuvée made from the best bunches with the smallest berries of the 1ers Crus of Clos du Roy and Chassière and the village Clos du Chapitre. Five 600-litre barrels (two new) have been made and it’s 100% whole-bunch. He rolls the barrels rather than using pigeage or remontage. Immense concentration but not heavy or over the top; the whole-bunch does its job very well. Needs time. Serve blind in 10 years’ time and see if anyone thinks it’s not from the Côte de Nuits.
