2023 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roy, Domaine Charton

Vincent Charton today oversees this 12-hectare domaine, which is planted primarily to Pinot Noir but also produces three excellent whites. Vincent is a meticulous vigneron, working hard to promote healthy soils and a vibrant ecosystem in his vineyards, and even partnering with a local cooper to make barrels tailored to his wines. On this historical plot, very old vines tend to produce small berries. The resulting wine is pretty concentrated, with dark fruit notes and a great tannic structure.
