2021 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roy, Domaine Charton

Perhaps this commune’s most acclaimed Premier Cru, this east facing vineyard on terre blanche soils typically produces the most rich and powerful wines in any Mercurey line up. This is dark with lovely intensity of black forest fruit, earth and a touch of woodsmoke that lend a very attractive savoury feel. The palate shows very serious structure too, with powerful fine tannins and plenty of fruit intensity that might be more typically associated with the Côtes de Nuits. This should age very nicely
