2022 Maranges 1er Cru Clos Roussots, Domaine Bertrand Bachelet
Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
This is one parcel of 0.6 hectares planted
by his grandfather back in 1957. It’s from
clay-rich soil on the flatter part of the 1ers
Crus, looking up at the steep slope of La
Fussière. Bertrand tried to keep extraction
to a minimum and only did two pigeages in
total on this cuvée. Whilst this wine certainly
has structure and tannin I think Bertrand’s
gentler approach towards it in terms of
vinification has worked well as the tannins
are better integrated and it is less rustic than
it once was a few years ago. Drink from 2027
