Château Haut Chaigneau in Lalande de Pomerol is the family property of Pascal Chatonnet, one of Bordeaux’s most respected winemaking consultants, whose clients include Cos d’Estournel and Spain's Vega Sicilia. Located in the highest part of Lalande de Pomerol, close to the frontier with Montagne Saint-Emilion, Haut Chaigneau is a labour of love for Pascal. The château’s eponymous flagship wine is an 80-20 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged in 25% new barriques, and has the concentration and complexity to rival many a Pomerol. La Croix Chaigneau is a lovely, fruit-driven wine for earlier drinking, while La Sergue, from a parcel on complex soils of flint, clay and gravel, and containing a dash of Malbec, is a hugely ambitious Lalande de Pomerol, made only the very best vintages.
