Sicily
The Etna DOC is today one of Europe’s most exciting wine regions – a source of intensely mineral reds and whites from, respectively, the local Nerello and Carricante grapes. But there’s more to Sicily than Etna, not least its world class sweet wines, Passito di Pantelleria and Malvasia di Lipari, and bright, breezy (red) Frappato grown around Ragusa in the south-east of the island. The summery white Grillo is another local grape which, in the right hands, is resulting in increasingly compelling wines.
