Champagne
Champagne can seem beautifully simple, with just three principal grapes, five sub-regions and a handful of well-known styles, such as Blanc de Blancs. But theh wines are complex as any, as the recent rise in Grower Champagnes has emphasised. Made in tiny quantities, at family-sized domaines like Domaine Vincey and Domaine d’Helene, these wines have cast a spotlight on the countless nuances in terroir across the region. The best of the Grandes Marques, like Taittinger and Billecart-Salmon, meanwhile, deliver consistently excellent wines defined less by terroir than by the “house style” of each producer.
