2020 Pommard Les Perrières, Domaine Launay-Horiot

It’s always exciting when the opening wine at a tasting jumps out of the glass and steals your attention and this superior village wine certainly does that. From a 2.2 hectare plot of 100 year old vines on quite sandy soil, on the right side of the RN74, this is wonderfully aromatic, and especially so for the appellation. The fruit is remarkably fresh and cool, with a lovely mix of maturity and elegance. It’s very much on the red fruit spectrum with a light almost airy yet earthy undertone.
