2018 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru, Domaine Taupenot Merme

The vines here are 45 years old and live in very little top soil (10 centimetres), before their roots start to penetrate the rock below. Romain has really been nailing this wine in recent vintages and this is another very fine example. The nose is delightful, polished and controlled and the tannins are very sophisticated, more high brow Côte de Nuits than rugged Cote de Beaune. The fruits are dark and earthy but still lifted and the glossy texture is very seductive. Good job
