2021 Côte Rôtie, Fongeant, Domaine Pierre Jean Villa

Fongeant is a lieu-dit in the heart of the famous Côte Brune. The soil here is schist with a few pockets of limestone, which deliver extra freshness and nuance to the wine. Characteristic of the Côte Brune, P-J’s Fongeant is intensely floral, with a more-ish sapid quality to the finish. The ’21 was vinified with around 75% whole-bunches and raised for two years in demimuids. It’s a baby at present, but gosh in a decade or so this promises to illustrate all the majesty Côte Rôtie.
