2017 Ridolfo IGT, Rocca di Montegrossi

Ridolfo is a magnificent wine in every respect. Bottled exclusively in magnums, each of which comes in a handsome wooden crate, it’s a blend of Pugnitello – so named because its tightly-packed bunches resemble a clenched fist – and Cabernet Sauvignon. Raised primarily in barriques (40% new), it’s muscular yet finely detailed with vibrant acidity. Ridolfo is a recurring name in Marco’s family history, which he can trace back as far as the 6th Century. The 2017 would grace any cellar, but allow a decade at least for it to reach its apogee.
