2021 Barolo Ravera, Elvio Cogno

Always a wine to look out for but the 2021 Ravera is extra special. It’s a blend of fruit from older vines than Cascina Nuova, and undergoes a slightly longer maceration. The nose is subtle yet complex, with a real sense of minerality, even salinity, pointing to the limestone soils here. Time in the glass reveals aromas of rose, cherry stone and hot rocks. The ‘21 is more linear than the ‘20, with remarkable concentration but still, there are no hard edges: this is sleek and harmonious even now, in keeping with the impeccable balance of the vintage. The ‘21 is arguably the most impressive Ravera we’ve ever tasted from Cogno.
