Sourced from a handful of plots around the winery in Ravera, Cascina Nuova is invariably a more supple, earlier drinking wine than Ravera and therefore a brilliant Barolo for medium-term drinking. The 2019 is a tad more compact and linear than the ’18, with cleansing acidity and an emphasis on cool black rather than red fruit. It was vinified 30% whole-bunch for extra lift and detail. Very smart indeed and also, in our view, exceptional value. Drinking window: 2024-2034
