2023 Côte Roannaise, Perdrizière, Domaine Sérol
Cote Roannaise, Loire, France
Lifted and peppery on the nose – less flamboyant than some of Sérol’s reds but no less enticing. The palate is densely packed, with grippy tannins and driving acidity. As reminiscent of Northern Rhône Syrah – or even Schioppettino – as it is Cru Beaujolais, but really this is a wine all of its own. It hails from a cold, east-facing site, with thin soils, rich in iron oxide. The 2023 was made with 20% whole-bunch, and raised in large oak casks (foudres). It has the capacity to age but can be enjoyed young, preferably at cellar temperature, with cold cuts, hard cheeses or quiche Lorraine. Drink 2025 - 2030
