2021 Solo per Amore Langhe Rosso, Sori della Sorba

The 2021 Solo Per Amore is a touch more restrained than previous vintages, but doesn’t take long to reveal its hedonistic streak, with a simply gorgeous bouquet majoring on crushed strawberries, rose petals and thyme. On the attack, it’s as juicy as a perfectly ripe peach but there’s shimmering acidity and a framework of velour-clad tannins that provide impetus. The 2021 was vinified with 70% whole-bunch and is a blend of 60% Dolcetto, 30% Nebbiolo and – exceptionally –10% Barbera (to compensate for a small crop and any lack of zip associated with 2021’s warmer growing season). This is a wine of tremendous charm and energy that is nigh-on impossible to resist now, but can be cellared with confidence for a couple or three years. Drink it at cellar temperature – or after a twenty-minute spell in the fridge – for full, mouth-watering effect. Drink 2023 to 2027.
