2021 Langhe Nebbiolo, Sori della Sorba

The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo is an absolute stunner. The nose is explosive and unmistakably “whole-bunchy”, with a kaleidoscopic array of summer fruit and floral aromas. For all this wine’s flamboyance, there’s a sense of precision and poise on the palate, which boasts al dente tannins and high (yet perfectly integrated) acid. There’s a profoundly moreish savoury, spicey character to the mid-palate. 100% Nebbiolo, the ’21 was vinified with 80% whole-bunch and raised for a year in neutral Slavonian oak botti. Again, it’s tough to resist now, with its mineral freshness to the fore, but it would be well worth tucking at least half a case away to study its development over the coming years. Drink 2024 to 2033.
