Gianni Brunelli

Tuscany, Italy

Gianni Brunelli is a benchmark producer in Montalcino, known for classically styled, terroir-driven expressions of Sangiovese. The estate was founded by Gianni and Laura Brunelli in 1987, following Gianni’s stint as a restauranteur in Siena.

The first vineyard purchased was the historic Le Chiuse di Sotto vineyard, just north of Montalcino, and originally owned by Gianni’s father. They later expanded with the higher-altitude Podernovone vineyard, based on the southeastern slopes of the region. In Podernovone they have Merlot planted for their Amor Costante cuvee.

Following Gianni’s passing in 2008, his wife Laura has continued to steward the estate with the same dedication and vision in which it started. Organic, meticulous farming, and a light touch in the cellar define their production, and these are some of the more pure, elegant and authentic wines we know from the region.
