Enologica Cassarà

Sicily, Italy

Etna, to the east, tends to attract the limelight but Sicily’s northwest corner is an excellent source of characterful, affordable wines like those from Vini Cassarà. Based a few kilometres from the ancient temple of Segesta (50 miles from Palermo), Cassarà has been a respected name in Sicilian winemaking since the nineteenth century. The business remains family-run, with significant holdings in and around the Alcamo DOC. The focus here is on indigenous varietals including Grillo and Nero d’Avola. Shaped by the warm Mediterranean sun and coastal breeze, the wines are, in both colours, ripe and juicy yet fresh.
