Domaine d’Hélène

Champagne, France

Domaine d’Hélène represents a new generation of grower Champagne, crafting expressive and refined Blanc de Blancs from Cramant in the Côte des Blancs.

It’s a fledgling project of Pierre Hugot, a descendant of a longstanding family of winegrowers. After gaining valuable experience at esteemed estates like Comte Liger-Belair, Chavy-Chouet, and Roulot, he returned home when he inherited some small plots, amounting to barely a hectare. Starting from scratch, Pierre is committed to developing a new, sustainable, quality-focused domaine, which he has charmingly named after his maternal grandmother, Hélène.

Farming practices are organic and biodynamic, with as little intervention as possible, to best express the terroir. In the cellar Pierre is working with wild yeasts and extended lees aging.

Quantities of wines Pierre has bought and labelled, while he waits for the fruits of his viticultural labour to develop in the cellar, are miniscule. But you can start to see his vision reflect in the glass. These are elegantly structured wines, with delicacy and laser focused chalky minerality. They’re citrus-driven, with little ‘work’, simply lingering salinity and light reduction.

It's very early days for Pierre, but you can see hints of what incredible potential he has on this small plot in Cramant. We were delighted to discover his project and we are sure you will be too.
