Alkina, in the Barossa Valley, is perhaps the most ambitious project we’ve ever come across in Australian wine.
Established in 2015 by South Australian Amelia Nolan, renowned winemaking consultant Alberto Antonini and Alejandro Bulgheroni, the estate has built a formidable reputation for its focus on Grenache, terroir expression, regenerative farming and minimal intervention winemaking.
Since 2017 Alkina has worked closely with renowned terroir-specialist Pedro Parra who has intricately mapped out the patchwork of soil and rock types on the 60 hectare estate in Greenock. The vineyard is certified organic and biodynamic.
Alkina is today a standard-bearer for the Barossa Valley, crafting not only Grenache, but beautifully elegant Shiraz and Semillon.
Fresh, immediate and priced for “everyday” drinking, the Kin trio of wines are a great introduction to contemporary Barossa. More classically presented, and more suited to ageing (yet expressive and ready to drink on release) are the Estate wines, which are new to the UK. The Polygon series are single-plot, single-variety Grenache and Shiraz, produced in tiny volumes – they are a must for any serious collector of Australian wines.
Alkina sits alongside our brilliant and coveted Leeuwin Estate in a small but mighty Australian portfolio.
