Burgundy
No wine region captures the imagination quite like Burgundy. This slim stretch of land from (broadly speaking) Chablis in the north to the Mâconnais in the south is the spiritual home of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Intricately classified, with Premier and Grand Crus at the top of the qualitative hierarchy, the vineyards of the Côte de Beaune produce Burgundy’s most sought-after white wines while its greatest reds hail from the Côte Nuits. A little further south lies the Côte Chalonnaise, a region in the ascendant whose wines, in both colours, have never been better than they are today, but remain excellent value.
