2020 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Launay-Horiot

From a special vineyard bordering Chambertin. It’s massively influenced by the Combe Grisard, not just for the cooling breezes off the slopes of the Hautes-Côtes but for the Jurassic limestone bedrock below its rich clay top soil. Xavier has only made 3 barrels, sadly, but what there is is lovely. The fruits are that little bit darker than was the case with the Pommards but it retains a drive and a completeness reminiscent of a ballerina finishing her arm movements with total grace.
