2021 Pommard 1er Cru Epenots, Domaine Violot-Guillemard

This cuvée has seemed to typify Joannès’ style over the past few years and 2021 is no exception. There is an incredible ethereal quality to the wine that offers up an intoxicating perfume of limpid, red summer berries and black tea spice. The intense fruit is layered over a sturdy frame of beautifully detailed and fine tannins and it’s clear from the power of both they will need some time to reconcile, though they offer a lot of promise! There is 100% whole cluster and new oak here that is worn incredibly lightly.
