2021 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge, Domaine Violot-Guillemard

From one of Beaune’s most feted vineyards, the fruit for this cuveé comes from high in the top right corner right on the Pommard border where the terroir is stony ‘terre blanche’. This has a particularly lifted and fragrant nose full of charming ripe red summer berries and sweet cooking spice. Fine, firm tannins will benefit from a few years to soften but they are more than matched by the wine’s fruit intensity.
