2023 Pommard 1er Cru La Platière, Domaine Violot Guillemard

Platière is split into two, with the upper part classified as village and the lower part as 1er Cru. It’s an interesting plot as the soil is stony with a limited amount of soil sitting on top of la roche mère. The vineyard was originally planted back in 1936, so many of the vines have their century in sight, although the overall average is brought down as parts have been replanted over the years. Facing due south, the vines get good exposure but at the same time the soil imparts plenty of stoniness and energy. Angular and quite fine with a core of power. Drink from 2032
