2016 Les Chétillons, Grand Cru, Robert Moncuit

Champagne, France

An outstanding wine that truly encapsulates why there’s so much buzz around terroir-driven Grower Champagnes at present. In the UK market, the lieu-dit Les Chétillons is perhaps most associated with Pierre Peters, and Moncuit’s rendition is every bit the equal of Peters’ stellar cuvée. Vinous, mineral but with that longed-for Grand Cru richesse, this may not reach its apogee for another five or so years but is simply stunning at present – it wowed all-comers when first tasted at the Stannary office. Salty and incredibly persistent on the finish. Could this be any better?
