2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fontenys, Domaine Georges Noëllat

Fontenys is ultimately an extension of the Grands Crus, carrying on where Ruchottes ends. It’s a great site and Maxime has an enviable though small holding here. Well exposed, the vines often reach great maturity and the ’23 version proved no exception. Yet despite the intense, full flavoured density there is good energy and vibrancy (that comes from the stony soil) which runs through its core. Jasper scores it 92-94 noting that ‘there is a really impressive dark red fruit bouquet and the wine saturates the palate. Lower acidity but all the sensuality. Very satisfying.’ Drink from 2030
