2022 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru, Domaine des Lambrays

I have probably tasted thirty vintages of Clos des Lambrays from barrel, and I don’t think I have ever tasted such a complete and exciting example. It has all the spice and dark brooding character one would want, but also lovely florality, vibrant stoniness and a layered complexity that frames an enviable length of flavour. This is just a baby at the moment, but it oozes such potential. Like all truly great wines, it has conspicuous longevity but, more importantly, a level of balance that allows a teasing glimpse of its wonderful future. The essence of the Clos is a finesse and elegance that run through all its vintages, and it is very evident here, having been dissected parcel by parcel and ‘re-unified’ just beautifully.
