2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru La Richemone, Domaine des Lambrays

For a Cru of such undoubted quality, La Richemone still flies slightly under the radar. It lies to the north of Nuits on the Vosne side of the village and is surrounded by the likes of Murgers, Boudots, Damodes, Cras and Chaignots, right in the heart of this lovely sweet spot. Jacques managed to get his hands on almost half of the two hectares of vines that make up Richemone, with Christophe Perrot Minot being the main sufferer, losing access to most of the vines he was renting. Many of those wines are 100 years old, the rest being at least 40 years of age. This is gorgeously glossy and fragrant and seems far too delicious to be a baby Nuits. But a baby Nuits it is, and beneath the very polished tannins and lush fragrance is a wine of real old vine matter, substance and length.
