2023 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret, Domaine des Lambrays

The domaine owns around 10% of this vineyard with just over a third of a hectare in its case. The parcel sits within a mini Clos within the main vineyard and the vines are sixty years old. Although still very Puligny in character, this has noticeably more presence and weight (the vineyard does sit next to Montrachet after all!). Yet, despite this greater volume in the mouth, it is counterbalanced by an incredibly salivating, dry finish, full of matter and saline interest. Great purity and very long. Is this Grand Cru? It is certainly very close indeed. Serious wine. Drink from 2028
