2023 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Cortons, Domaine Larue

The domaine is a relatively young one, with the third generation only just taking over from their fathers. In 2006, Denis’s son, Bruno, joined the team and, more recently, Didier’s son, Vivien, joined, too, with the two cousins now ready to succeed their fathers when the time comes. They have a large and very smart new winery at their disposal now and the construction of this really helped take the wines to a new level. Les Cortons is a lesser known but well located site sandwiched between En Remilly and Chatenière. It’s south facing and there is a little more clay in the soil, which is good for water retention in dry periods. The wine is quite rich with notes of ripe stone fruits and citrus but, like all the domaine’s wines it avoids any sense of heaviness.
