2022 Art Series, Shiraz, Leeuwin Estate

Think Alain Graillot, rather than Penfolds, when considering the Art Series Shiraz from Leeuwin. Here, it’s all about perfume, fragrance and spice, with 30% whole bunch fermentation adding to this lifted, elegant feel in the 2022. Only demi-muids are used for élévage. The backbone is from vineyards further inland that has a greater diurnal effect (cool nights) which gives the wines added freshness. At the same time, the wines are maritime influenced, bringing complexity and bringing out (maybe subconsciously) the briney, black olive flavours.
