2018 Barbaresco Fausoni, Guido Rivella

The Fausoni vineyard is just South of the town of Neive. There is more sand here, and the microclimate is slightly cooler, resulting in a more mineral style of Barbaresco, with lifted aromatics and somewhat angular tannins that need time and a little extra air (hence this is aged in used 225L barrels, rather than tonneaux) to soften. Guido’s Fausoni is a wine of real elegance, which may require a year or two longer than the Montestefano to come round. Drink from 2026
