It’s increasingly tough for new producers to gain a foothold in Burgundy – what with the price of land (not to mention the lack of it) – but Arnaud Boué has managed to do so, and the resulting wines are a fine addition to Flint’s portfolio.
Maison Arnaud Boué is based in Villars-Fontaine, in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. Arnaud's first vintage here was 2018, but he honed his skills over many years in Bordeaux, South Africa and New Zealand before returning to his native Burgundy.
The Hautes-Côtes, and other less-heralded appellations, are something of a speciality for Arnaud. He owns 7 hectares of vines on the outskirts of Villars-Fontaine, as well as a tiny 0.12-hectare parcel in Nuits-Saint-Georges (in the lieu-dit Les Charmois).
Arnaud also buys grapes from like-minded growers, many of them organic-certified.
His exceptionally mineral, saline Bourgogne Blanc hails from Auxerre, while his juicy yet energetic Côtes de Nuits Villages Blanc is from Comblanchien. Other highlights include Arnaud’s Bourgogne Aligoté, made from the lesser-spotted Aligoté d’Orée, and Côteaux Bourguigons (100% Gamay).
In both colours, Arnaud’s are top examples of wines from appellations which, in many cases, represent some of the best rapport qualité/prix Burgundy has to offer.
