Germany
Germany is a source of some of the world’s best – and best-value – white wines. The predominant white grape is Riesling and the principal region, from a fine wine perspective, is the Mosel (albeit Rheinhessen has a greater area under vine). Mosel Riesling can be bone dry, lusciously sweet and everything in between; Kabinett and Spätlese are Pradikat styles that combine playful sweetness with shimmering acidity and, typically, low ABV. Germany also produces its fair share of sparkling Sekt and of high quality Pinot Noir, known here as Spätburgunder.
