Sydonios was established in 2016 by Bordeaux courtier Antoine Schvartz and Baptiste Larbre, with a mission ‘To create exceptional glassware reflecting the talent of the winemaker and all the sensory quality of the wines.’ The name Sydonios is an anagram of Dionysus, Greek god of winemaking and festivity.
The range is comprised of six different models of glass, developed not with a particular grape or appellation in mind, but to frame and enhance wines of a specific style. For example, L’Esthète (460ml), which is compact and elegant, is the glass of choice for tasting young wines En Primeur at numerous top Bordeaux châteaux and in Flint’s own tasting room. Septentrional (1000ml) is one of three larger models, perfect for more mature wines.
All the glasses, as well as Sydonios’s trio of stylish decanters, are mouth-blown and lead-free. They are crafted by a highly-experienced team of twelve – each person responsible for a different stage of the production process.
Across the range, the glasses are feather-light and impeccably balanced, and safe to use in specialist glass-washers.
New to Flint, Sydonios has already garnered a loyal following across the Channel, not only among winemakers but sommeliers. Sydonios glasses are used in some of France's most prestigious restaurants, including the 3 Michelin-starred Le Clos des Sens, Les Prés d'Eugénie and Pierre Gagnaire.
