Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the world's favourite white grape varieties. Its historic heartland is the Loire Valley, in appellations such as Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, but many consumers today associate it mostly with Marlborough in New Zealand. It's also widely grown Chile, and there are pockets in regions as diverse as Napa and Friuli in northern Italy. The majority of Sauvignons are unoaked, with the grape's characteristic elderflower, kiwi and herbaceous aromas to the fore. Stereotypically, New World examples would be more aromatic, Old World wines more mineral, but those lines have been blurred by climate change and shifting tastes.
