The 2009 Erre Punto contains 70% old-vine Viura and 30% old-vine Malvasia. It is slightly more expressive with a bit more depth, concentration, and complexity.
Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Genuza ranks among the top half-dozen producers in Rioja. Fernando Remirez de Ganuza has been able to accomplish this by melding the best aspects of traditional and contemporary Rioja styles into his own unique expression. White wine is a new addition to the portfolio.

The 2003 Remirez de Ganuza is dark crimson-colored with a brooding bouquet of mineral, blackberry, and lack cherry. Layered, rich, and intense, the wine will evolve for 5-7 years while gaining complexity. It will be at its best from 2015-2025.
One of the quality leaders in Rioja, Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza has produced superb wines in the more difficult 2003 vintage and the idyllic 2004 vintage. Both vintages are composed of 85% old-vine Tempranillo, 10% old-vine Graciano, 3% old-vine Garnacha, and 2% other. The wines are estate grown and bottled from 4 parcels with age ranging from 34 to 97 years. The wine is aged for 2 years in French and American oak prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

The 2004 Reserva, according to Remirez is “?a great vintage, a lot of nerve, like 1994, that needed a long aging period”. Opaque purple in color, it offers up a splendid bouquet of sandalwood, incense, Asian spices, balsamic, and black cherry. Layered, opulent, and impeccably balanced, it is a monumental effort.
Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza is one of Rioja’s benchmark estates. It encompasses about 132 acres located in four regions of Alava Rioja planted to approximately 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano. The winery itself is located in the village of Samaniego. Upon my arrival at the Bodega in May 2010, I discovered a surprise. In addition to a vertical tasting of all the Reservas, Senor Remirez had prepared a similar vertical of Trasnocho, a wine that has never been exported to the USA. With all due respect, the greatest vintages from Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza in my opinion are 2004 and 2001.

The 2005 Trasnocho is a layered, structured offering that will require extended cellaring. It is a packed effort with loads of fruit and tannin to match. It should hit its stride by 2015 and drink well for 20 years thereafter.
